Trigger Point Injections
Trigger Point Injections can be an effective treatment for pain. When a client comes to the VIVA Wellness clinic with muscle aches and pains, we may perform a procedure called Trigger Point Injection.
What are Trigger Point Injections?
Trigger points are tight muscles, often feeling like knots under the skin. Sometimes a mere saline injection will break up these knots and release muscular tension. The trigger points can also be injected with a numbing medication called lidocaine and an anti-inflammatory medication to alleviate pain in the muscle.
Trigger points may develop after an injury, or over time from poor body mechanics like poor posture. Often, clients come to our clinic with neck, back, hip, or calf muscular pains. Trigger Point Injections can be very effective at relieving pain in muscles.
The premise behind the Trigger Point procedure is that the muscles have developed tight areas of contraction or adhesion. As a result, the contracted area pulls on other surrounding muscles and causes pain. When a needle is injected directly into the trigger point, it causes the muscles to release the tension.
